On the March 18 2009 a group of New Zealand's leading independent publishers agreed to work together to create a new kind of online media advertising network.

They did so in the spirit of fostering New Zealand's online media future for New Zealand's emerging online publishers and bloggers.

The group included several of New Zealand's oldest and most read websites: the biggest independent news website - scoop.co.nz; the biggest technology community - geekzone.co.nz; the two biggest and most awarded blogs kiwiblog.co.nz and publicaddress.net; and, New Zealand's leading television community throng.co.nz.

Together these core websites in ffunnell reach an audience of 1.3 million unique browsers a month and serve nearly 1 million pages a week.

In founding ffunnell the publishers agreed to work together create a new kind of advertising sales network which would:

  • work for and deliver real value to indigenous online publishers - the people and businesses who are building the media infrastructure for NZ's 21st century
  • use its members experience and skills to deliver innovative online campaigns that really work for clients and their agencies
  • pioneer the delivery of innovative, conversational, engagement and social media marketing strategies
  • launch technologies which will make online advertising easier and more effective to access for smaller advertisers

The new network is called ffunnell and you can look forward to seeing its work on a Kiwi owned website near you in coming months.
